How to Prepare for a Job Interview

First impressions are important! When interviewing for a job, it is important to remember these keeps in order to maintain professionalism and be a desired candidate:

  1. Do Your Research

It is essential to conduct research prior to your job interview. This will prevent any slip ups, such as asking questions that can be easily answered from a website’s job description and will prepare you on how you should guage some of your answers. Doing research on the interviewer can give you a leg up as well, as it shows that you are dedicated and took time getting to know the company and the people involved in it.

  1. Dress Professional

Dress to impress! It is always better to be dressed too formal than too casual, as that would give off the impression that you are not taking the interview or the job as a whole seriously. In addition, dressing like you mean business commands more respect and ensures you are serious about the position.

  1. Be Yourself

Being nervous is natural, but it’s important to remember that while you want to be professional and appropriate at all times, that your future boss does not want a robot. Don’t be afraid to show your personality a bit and what you and your versatility can bring to the team!

  1. Have Questions Prepared

Having questions prepared emphasises to the interviewer that you did your research. It also is a good way for you to get to know the job and what it really entails, and that can help guide you in making your decision as well.

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Interviewing doesn’t come naturally to everyone, and in fact it’s never a good idea to wing it (even if you would consider interviewing one of your strengths). You should make a mental note of potential questions they could ask when doing your research, and you can even ask a friend or colleague to do a mock interview with you to help you feel more prepared. At the end of the day, even if you don’t get the job, having good interview practice will only improve these valuable skills.
